Academic success led to sweet treats for hundreds of Bellefontaine High School students Friday, Feb. 10, during the annual Sweet Rewards ceremony at the main gymnasium.

The Bellefontaine High School Academic Boosters Club recognized freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors for earning a 3.0 grade point average or higher in the first semester.

A total of 386 students were honored with sweet rewards, including donuts, cookies, milk and water.

BHS students then played, “The Price is Right,” in their quest to take home prizes. Thirty prizes worth over a combined $200 were given away.

More than $400 in cash was handed out to students. Several community members and businesses donated gift cards.

BHS Principal Jason Brown, BHS Assistant Principal Cliff Core, and BCS Gifted Coordinator Angie Horvath emceed Sweet Rewards.

Brown praised the students for their commitment to academic excellence, which is one of the three pillars at BHS.

He then gave an inspirational speech, detailing how gratefulness is the first step to happiness.

Four moms from the Academic Boosters Club served as the chairpersons of the event.

“The entire focus of the Academic Boosters Club is to enhance academics and honor kids who make academics a priority,” Horvath reflected on the ceremony.

The spring awards ceremony will be April 28 in the high school auditorium.
