A vehicle crashed into the living room of a rental residence along U.S. Route 68 and State Route 274 about 8:35 p.m. Friday, March 13, narrowly missing two people inside.

Two adults — a male renter and his girlfiend — inside the residence at 6892 N. U.S. Route 68 just missed being struck in what troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol described as a “close call,” sustaining only minor contact with crash debris.

No injuries were reported.

Christian Wallace, 30, of Galion, was operating a 2018 Kia Forte northeast on U.S. 68 when he became distracted while reaching for a vape pen, troopers said. Wallace told troopers he looked up and saw Ohio Department of Transportation workers on the roadway and swerved to avoid them.

The car then traveled off the right side of the highway and struck the residence.

There was full intrusion into the residence,” Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Ryan Standley said.

Wallace was cited for failure to maintain control.

Damage to both the residence and vehicle was described as heavy, though damage estimates were not immediately available.

Logan County Auditor records list Joshua Downing as the property owner.

The house was secured by 1-800-BOARDUP.
