Community Health and Wellness Partners will host its third annual Blessed in the Dress prom giveaway event on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Richwood Bank.

The event is designed to help reduce financial barriers for students attending prom by providing free formalwear and prom-related items, made possible through strong community support. Organizers report that approximately 300 prom dresses have been donated, along with jewelry, shoes and handbags.

In addition to dresses and accessories, the event will feature giveaways for gift certificates donated by local businesses, including certificates for hair styling, nail services, restaurants, flowers and other prom-related expenses, helping students complete their prom experience.

Melinda Smith, community value based care specialist for CHWP, looks over some of the shoes donated for the Blessed in the Dress event.

Attendees may donate a prom dress to exchange for one at the event or make a $20 donation to receive a dress; however, no cash donation is required to receive items. Organizers emphasized that all eligible students are welcome, regardless of their ability to donate.

Students from CHWP’s partner high schools are eligible to participate and may also receive free prom admission tickets, while supplies last. Those schools include Benjamin Logan, Graham, Indian Lake, Riverside, and West Liberty-Salem.

Heidi Miracle, executive assistant to outreach and operations for Community Health and Wellness Partners, said the event reflects the organization’s broader mission. Miracle has been with the local healthcare provider for about 11 years, dating back to around the time it was founded.

Now more than 140 employees strong, Miracle said the organization focuses on a holistic approach to healthcare that extends beyond clinical services.

“Events like Blessed in the Dress treat the whole person and help them feel confident and beautiful — inside and out,” Miracle said.

A wide range of local businesses, organizations and individuals contributed donations to support this year’s event, including Wrens Florist, Syndicate/Brewfontaine, Trina’s Second Hand Rose, Salon Expo, Costume Shop, Woven Chic, Ethel’s Flowers, Nu Skin (Aaliyah Schoenleben), Maurices, Sarah Dague, Shawndell Wilson, Buckeye at the Lake, Vicarios/Buckeye Family, Flying Pepper, and Richwood Bank.

Organizers encouraged eligible students to arrive early, noting that dresses, accessories and giveaways are available while supplies last.
