Ohio Hi-Point Career Center is preparing future firefighters through a new Fire Level 1 program that combines hands-on training and a direct college pathway.
Ohio Hi-Point will offer a new one-year Fire Level 1 program beginning with the 2026–27 school year, providing incoming high school seniors with hands-on training for careers in emergency services.
The 156-hour program introduces students to core firefighting and emergency response skills, including fire suppression, search and rescue, hazardous materials response and emergency vehicle operations. Students will receive practical training using ladders, tools, power equipment and fire apparatus, while also learning how fires behave in structures and how to respond safely and effectively in emergency situations.
The Fire Level 1 program meets the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications and is offered through a partnership with Clark State College. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to continue their training in Clark State’s Fire Level 2 program.
“We’ve seen and heard the demand for a fire program,” Ohio Hi-Point Superintendent Brad Richardson said. “This partnership with Clark State gives students the skills needed to meet industry demand and opens multiple pathways, from volunteer service to full-time careers.”
Students enrolled in the program may earn industry-recognized credentials, including the Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certificate and Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) certification.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old. The program is open to incoming high school seniors seeking a one-year career pathway with strong workforce demand and opportunities for continued education.
