OSP responds to one fatal crash during winter blast
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging Ohioans to remain off roadways whenever possible as hazardous travel conditions persist across the state following Winter Storm Fern.
Although snowfall has begun to taper, troopers said snow- and ice-covered roads continue to create dangerous driving conditions statewide. Since the storm began Saturday evening, the patrol has responded to a high volume of calls for assistance across Ohio.
According to updated OSP statewide figures released Sunday, troopers have responded to 1,090 disabled vehicles, 304 property-damage crashes, 23 injury crashes and one fatal crash statewide.
In addition to traffic-related incidents, the patrol also assisted with four emergency blood relay transports during the storm, helping ensure lifesaving blood products reached medical facilities despite hazardous road conditions.
Troopers noted that even as precipitation diminishes, lingering ice, blowing snow and reduced visibility can continue to contribute to crashes and stranded vehicles. Motorists are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors whenever possible.
Drivers who need assistance or who observe dangerous driving are encouraged to contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol by dialing #677 to reach their local patrol post.
The patrol continues to monitor conditions statewide and reminds motorists who must travel to slow down, increase following distance and remain alert for disabled vehicles and emergency responders along roadways.
