Deputies respond to assault call, crashes

Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office investigated an assault reported in the Lakeview area during the early morning hours of Jan. 1.

According to reports, Charles S. Gibbons, 61, of Lakeview, was issued a summons for assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. The incident stemmed from a New Year’s gathering at a residence along Ash Avenue shortly before midnight on Dec. 31.

Authorities said an argument over a spilled purse escalated into a physical altercation between Gibbons and an adult male. A teenage male associated with Gibbons denied involvement in the fight, though the victim reported being attacked by two males.

Gibbons told deputies the victim threatened him prior to the altercation.

• A Marysville teen sustained minor injuries Saturday morning, Jan. 3 in a one-vehicle crash on County Road 2 near Township Road 132. 

Emma Nichol, 17, was reportedly driving a 2013 Kia Soul west on C.R. 2 about 10:30 a.m. when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck an embankment and a tree. 

Emma, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by private vehicle to Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville

The driver told deputies she was distracted by a deer in a nearby tree line. She was cited for failure to maintain control. 

Damage to the vehicles was disabling and it was towed from the scene. 

• A West Mansfield motorist struck and killed a cow that entered the roadway in the 2500 block of State Route 292 Sunday evening, Jan. 4.

Deputies report the driver was traveling northbound in a Jeep Renegade on S.R. 292 at approximately 6:40 p.m. when she reportedly did not see the animal enter the roadway before the collision.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, reported no injuries at the scene but requested to be transported by Perry Township EMS to Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville as a precaution.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

The cow’s owner said it was pushed out if its pin by coyotes.
