A longtime marching band tradition returns to Bellefontaine High School Saturday night, Sept. 13, when BHS hosts the 39th annual Band Spectacular.

The festivities begin at 7 p.m. at AcuSport Stadium.

The Band Spectacular started as a band competition, but has evolved into a fun performance opportunity for area bands.

A variety of music and styles will be represented in each band’s performance, making each show unique. Different types of bands will participate, such as show bands (non-competitive bands) and contest bands.

Eleven area high school bands will perform (in the following order): Bellefontaine, Riverside, Jackson Center, Lehman, Triad, Waynesfield-Goshen, Urbana, Lincolnview, Graham, Benjamin Logan, Jonathan Alder and Bellefontaine.

This year, the “Pride of the Tribe” will be performing two different halftime shows; the first is called “Band on Broadway,” featuring music from Jersey BoysMamma Mia!Chicago, and American Idiot (the Green Day musical).

The second show is titled “15 Minutes of Fame” and features music by Tommy Tutone, Rick Astley, Aqua and LMFAO.
