LCBDD welcomes new preschool staff for start of school year

The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities were updated on preschool staff changes at the Discovery Center for the new school year at their August meeting, and also were briefed on the kitchen renovation project by LCBDD Superintendent Krista Oldiges. 

Oldiges said the Discovery Center kitchen will be turned additional office space for the Service and Support Administration Department. The work will begin after Labor Day and should be completed by the end of the year. 

Human Resources Director Staci Nichols reported that new staff members include Lindsay Phoenix, intervention specialist; Misty Kipker, Kiersten King-Wilcox and Megan Dudgeon, instructors; Andrea Corwin, instructor assistant; Siera Dickerson, occupational therapist; and Margaret Harrod, speech therapist. 

Staff who have moved positions within the agency include Kenzie Bechtel, who accepted the preschool manager position; Brooke Wage, who accepted an instructor assistant Position and Tiffany Fultz, who is filling the administrative assistant position at the Discovery Center that was vacated by Wage. 

Currently, the board is interviewing applicants for a service and support administrator position as well as substitute custodians. 

The Early Intervention Department has been hosting Parkside Pals play dates for all families who have children ages birth up to 3 years old at various parks in the county. The next play date is Thursday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m. at the Russells Point playground. 

All the local village police departments in Logan County now have Blue Envelopes available for the Blue Envelope Program, which aims to improve interactions between individuals with developmental disabilities and first responders. 

Members accepted a grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth for Early Intervention Service Coordination. The board also approved a revised table of organization to include new staff, as well as, an updated administrative assistant position description. 

The board has applied for the Keeping Families Together grant. If received, this funding will help keep children who receive services from the board in their families’ homes. This funding can be used for items such as in-home behavioral supports, sensory equipment, respite etc. 

Oldiges noted that there has been a lot of participation in the Special Olympics softball team. Due to this response, two softball teams have been created. 

Jason Moyer, SSA Director, met with Thriving Together, a community-based day program provider from Union County, on their availability to provide services in Logan County. 

Board staff are in the planning stages for the annual chicken barbecue, which is set for Friday, Oct. 10. 

LCBDD Board meetings are typically conducted the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 1973 W. State Route 47, Bellefontaine. The next meeting is Sept. 4.
