Driver found asleep in damaged vehicle arrested

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, to a residence in the 4600 block of County Road 5 on a report newer vehicle with a damaged bumper parked in the driveway with a male driver inside it.

Deputies arrived and knocked on a Ford sport utility vehicle’s window to awaken a sleeping driver, who was identified as Joshua Williams, 40, of Lima.

An odor of alcohol was detected when Williams opened the vehicle’s door, according to reports.

Williams told deputies he was traveling from Worthington to Lima to visit family, but deputies noted where the SUV was parked was far from typical routes of travel between those cities.

The driver had a key fob in his pocket and was able to start the vehicle for deputies. He admitted to having several drinks of bourbon, deputies report.

He reportedly had glassy and bloodshot eyes, had difficulty answering questions and was unsteady on his feet.

Asked about cuts observed on his feet the driver was unable to finish an answer and nearly fell while pointing to an injury.

Williams refused field sobriety tests and was arrested for a physical control of a vehicle violation.

He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he attempted to sit in a chair and fell out of it. He also refused to take a breathalyzer test at the jail.

A two-thirds full bottle containing bourbon was recovered from the SUV.

The vehicle was towed for safekeeping.

Williams was released to a sober driver.
