Russell E. Markin, 82, of Urbana, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025. Russell was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and man of unwavering faith. Russell lived a life of service, love, and endless adventure.

Born on February 11, 1943, to the late George W. and Laura Evelyn (Watkins) Markin, Russell grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and the great outdoors. On September 28, 1963, he married the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) J. (Bahan) Markin, and together they shared 62 beautiful years of marriage.

Russell was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As the company armorer, he received a special award as a sharpshooter. His dedication to his country was a testament to his character—loyal, disciplined, and always willing to serve.

He dedicated 30 years to Siemens in Marysville before continuing his work at Tanger’s Furniture Store in Bellefontaine for 15 years. Later, he found great joy working alongside his son Terry at Markin Farms Zipline Adventures for 8 years, where he was able to share his love of the outdoors with many.

Russell’s passion for the outdoors was unparalleled. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he treasured trips out west and to Alaska. He and Peggy took yearly journeys to Michigan to hunt for mushrooms. He especially cherished hunting and spending time with his Watkins family. Following his love for sports, he played softball for many years and dedicated time as a volunteer coach for little league and pony league baseball in his community.

A devoted man of faith, Russell was a lay leader, Sunday school teacher, and trustee at Middleburg United Methodist Church. He and Peggy were highly involved in the Emmaus Community, sponsoring more than fifty people over the years. Russell was never afraid to share his faith and took great joy in leading others to the Lord. His giving spirit was evident in all that he did.

Above all, Russell’s greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his sons, Terry S. Markin (Julie) and Shane T. Markin; his grandchildren, Seth T. Markin, Casey S. Markin, Brooke E. Markin, and Neil E. Markin; and his great-grandson, Austin B. Markin. He is also survived by his brother, Gary A. Markin (Karen), and his sister, Rita (Markin) Smith (Ron), along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Russell’s love for his family was endless. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson, always supporting them at their sporting and special events. He was a constant presence in their lives, offering a limitless amount of encouragement and love.
