Kayte Clary, 34, of Rushsylvania, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 1, at her place of employment following a report of a stolen firearm.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 9:47 a.m. of a stolen rifle from a residence in the 1800 block of east County Road 111 in Rushsylvania. The missing firearm was reported as a .22 caliber Magnum Research rifle with a shot suppressor and a scope. Its owner suspected Clary had taken it from a workbench in his garage.

Deputies located Clary at the Rushsylvania One Stop, where she was working. She initially denied taking the firearm. However, after consenting to a search of her vehicle, she told deputies that she had found the rifle in her vehicle’s trunk that morning but had not contacted law enforcement.

Deputies found the rifle in plain view on top of some clothing in the trunk of her vehicle. After securing the business, Clary was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. She was lodged on a charge of theft of a firearm.
