Punctured fuel tank leads to HazMat response

The Logan County HazMat team was dispatched shortly before 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, to help clean up a diesel spill in the area of west State Route 47 and St. Paris Street.

A semi-truck driven by Tomas Fellows of Beavercreek struck a metal bar in the roadway, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report. The impact reportedly punctured the truck’s left fuel tank, causing approximately 30 gallons of diesel fuel to leak onto the street.

The Bellefontaine Fire Department arrived and used absorbent materials and diking techniques to contain the spill. Upon arrival, Logan County Hazmat and implemented additional containment measures to manage the leak.

Topps Towing & Garage towed the damaged semi-truck. No injuries were reported.
