Calvary Christian School (CCS) enjoyed a significant milestone on Saturday, Jan. 4, when students, staff, friends and families gathered for their first pair of basketball games in the school’s new gym at 1673 County Road 9, Bellefontaine.

The night started with a junior varsity game, which was a loss, but ended on a high note as the varsity Spartans tamed the Ansonia Tigers in a 58 to 37 victory. Senior Zeeke Wylie led the team with 17 points, two rebounds and three steals.

Also making their mark were Christian Rogan—16 points, two rebounds and three steals; Philip Davie—10 points, five rebounds, three steals and four assists; Daniel Young—nine points, five rebounds and one steal; and Evan Schmidt—six points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

But the highlight of the night was finally playing on their official gym floor.

“While the planning started three years ago, this facility has been a dream for decades,” Ryan Hyde, head of school, said. “We’re thrilled to begin a new era … and we’re giving God all the glory as we’ve seen the series of miracles that got us to this point.”

When students left the old Rush Ave. CCS campus for a month-long Christmas break in December, it was the end of a 45-year era. This week, the staff and anyone willing to help finishes moving everything into the new school, and classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
