Charlotte May Rhode (née Hodies) passed away on December 18, 2024 at The Inn at Olentangy Trail in Delaware, Ohio. She was 90 years old.
Charlotte was born on August 15, 1934, the third of four children born to Perry Hodies, Sr. and Rachel Hodies (née May) She lived in Russells Point, Ohio as a child and young woman, and was a 1952 graduate of the Washington Local School in Lewistown. After high school, she lived and worked in Bellefontaine, Ohio where she managed her parents’ restaurant, The Circus Bar & Grill, and met her future husband, William (Bill) Rhode.
Charlotte and Bill married in April, 1956. The couple resided in Dayton, Ohio, Cambridge, Ohio and Twinsburg, Ohio during the course of their 21 year marriage, and gave birth to three children, Steve Rhode (Patty) of Lynnfield, Massachusetts; Christie Marker (Todd) of Delaware, Ohio; and Paula Brantley (Phil) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After Bill’s untimely death, Charlotte returned to Logan County and resided in West Liberty, Ohio for more than 40 years.
Charlotte loved reminiscing about the glory years at Indian Lake, her old haunts, and all of her friends and family when many of the big bands and popular travelling shows frequented the resort area. She also loved debating politics, discussing history, her bridge and Monday afternoon clubs, watching classic movies, and in later years discussing college football.
Charlotte is survived by her children and their spouses, her sister Patricia Allen (née Hodies); her sister-in-law Barbara Hodies (née Modafferi) by six grandchildren and one great grandchild: Miles Marker; T.C. Marker (Liz Cherry); Arwen Marker (Tony Ciccone); Meara Marker; Parker Rhode; Tracy Rhode and Astra Ciccone-Marker. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, their children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her brother Perry Hodies, Jr., her brother-in-law Carroll Allen, her sister and spouse Nancy and Jim Parker, and sisters-in-law and spouses, Sally and Ora Priest, Jeanine and Jim McBride, and Janet and Jack Vance.
Services and visitation will be held on February 22, 2025 at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Home, 101 Valleyside Drive in Delaware, Ohio. Visitation will start at 2 p.m. and conclude with a memorial service at 4 p.m.
