Indian Lake Schools: Programs to return through grant funding

The Indian Lake Board of Education wrapped up business for 2024 and made quick work of a light agenda at their regular meeting Monday evening, Dec. 16. 

The board approved several grants coming to the district, including a $1,500 grant from the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services Board of Logan and Champaign Counties to the ILMS Girls in Pearls and Guys In Ties programs for programming and supplies. 

They also approved a $5,000 Mary Rutan Health Community Grant for Indian Lake Middle School to bring in a mental health speaker for staff and students. 

Finally, they accepted $15,000 from the Indian Lake Athletic Boosters as a donation to the IL Athletic Department. 

In addition, the board hired Missy Mefford as the head ILHS Volleyball Coach. 

The board also recognized four Lakers who recently earned All State Honors in football. Quest Clay was named First Team All Ohio, Brodey Reisinger and Noah Shirk earned Second Team All Ohio and Madden Lillard was named Honorable Mention. 

In other action, the board: 

• accepted the resignations of Ken Turner, four-hour bus driver, effective Nov. 24; and Jill Stockmaster, elementary teacher, effective at the end of the 2024-25 contract;

accepted the $1,000 anonymous donation to the Student Needs Fund;

• approved the annual renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association Membership and Subscription Fees of $7,419;

• approved a classified for contract Brenda Mitchell, four-hour bus driver;

• approved Andrea Jacobs as a tutor for up to two hours per week; and 

• extended a supplemental contract to Steven Major, assistant boys wrestling. 

Indian Lake Board of Education members will meet for an organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 8 in the board office. Board president Gabe Wickline will serve as president pro tempore for that gathering. 

During that meeting, board members will elect officers and set the meeting schedule for the rest of 2025.
