About 17 friends and acquaintances of Thane Piatt came together Sunday to cut several loads of wood to help with his winter heating needs.

The 32-year-old West Liberty man sustained a serious left leg injury during a Sept. 30 work accident previously reported on by the Examiner. The accident pinned his leg between a pickup truck and an attached trailer on County Road 10 near Zanesfield.

Still undergoing surgeries and recovering from the injury, Thane was unable to cut the wood himself.

Urbana resident Steve Williams, who knows Thane’s father, organized the wood-cutting crew, which was able to cut four loads to supply Thane’s wood-burning home heating needs. A fifth load was cut for Colby LeVan, who allowed the group to use his land for the wood-cutting effort.

“You got to love when a plan comes together. I can’t thank everybody enough for all the help, Williams said in a Facebook post.”

“I can’t thank all of you guys enough!! You guys stepped up and did what needed to be done and I will forever be grateful for that!! MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL,” Thane shared via Facebook.
