Larry Sherman Smalley, 79, of Bellefontaine, left us to join the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at St. Rita’s in Lima.
Larry was born March 24, 1945 to Ethel (Mick) Rich and Sherman Smalley. He is survived by a brother, David Smalley and a sister, Trudy (Rick) Stephens. He was preceded in death by half siblings, Lynda (Tom) Brininger and Sherman Smalley Jr.
On February 25, 1967,, he married the love of his life, Carol Smalley, who survives. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage in which they welcomed 2 sons, Larry Jr. (Melissa) Smalley and Joseph Smalley and a daughter, Sue Webster (fiancé Tim Gilmore). They also have 3 grandsons, Antonio Rosales Jr. (Kelsey), Ricky Sawmiller and Anthony Beckman and 2 granddaughters, Shiana Smalley and Karyl Webster. 3 great grandsons, Avian Smith, Shane Rosales and Kyngston Rosales. His family also included several nieces, nephews and in-laws and a very special niece, Tina Craig.
Larry loved the outdoors and anything that involved him being in it. When his health allowed him to, you could often find him out hunting, fishing, berry picking or mushroom hunting, often taking his kids or grandkids with him. His favorite hangout was the Bellefontaine Waffle House where they all knew him by name. He had a very extensive pocket knife collection which he loved showing off to everyone.
He loved his family and would do anything for any of them. He never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His wisecracks and Dad jokes will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday July 31, at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home and Crematory 5591 US Highway 68 S. West Liberty, Ohio 43357. Visitation will be from noon until time of service.
