Allie H. Schrader

Allie H. Schrader, 97, of Belle Center, peacefully passed away at 12:02 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Campbell Place in Bellefontaine. He was born in Belle Center, Ohio on December 29, 1926, to the late Henry and Lydia (Metzger) Schrader. On September 25, 1948, he married Betty Jean (Hempy) Schrader, and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2017. Allie was also preceded in death by his son, Chris Schrader on March 14, 2013, and his three siblings, Foster Schrader, Robert Schrader, and Joyce Mitchell.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana (Doug) Henry of Middleburg: daughter-in-law, Julie Schrader of Russells Point; grandchildren, Nicole (Jamie) Schwieterman, Ryan (Erin) Schrader, Molly (Wes) Hall, Whitney Schrader, Heath Kindle, Kevin (Mary) Henry, Kiel (Megan) Henry, and Alex Henry; great grandchildren, Sydney, Reed, Maddux, Cooper, Miller, Brock, Elias, Jasper, Jaelon, and Jocelyn.

Allie wore many hats over the years as he worked at Hopewell Dairy, Rockwell, the Logan County Sheriff’s office, and the Belle Center Lumber Company.  The hat he was most proud to wear, though, was the one identifying him as a WWII Veteran.  He proudly served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier, the Lexington, during the end of the war. Allie was an active member in the Masonic Lodge for over 70 years, Kiwanis, and the Willard Stout American Legion Post 266.

Allie had many hobbies to fill his free time.  His love for woodworking was well known to many as he created many beautiful pieces over the years.  He started with cabinetry, bird houses, and garden sifters. But his greatest love was making toy boxes and art pieces with intarsia. Allie loved gardening and would start seeds early to have enough plants – especially tomato plants – to share.  He also loved to travel.  He and Dana traveled all over the world.  Allie encouraged Dana to get into the travel business and they took many others with them as they explored many states and faraway places.  He loved the friendships he developed through this travel over the years and truly missed those friends as his health made the travel more difficult.

Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 306 N. Elizabeth Street, Belle Center, with Masonic Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Kevin Smith will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center, with military rites provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
