Jean Alyce Fullerton, 98, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday morning, July 16, 2024, at Logan Acres Care Center.

Jean was born in New Hampshire, Ohio, on March 3, 1926, to the late Samuel J. Hover and Margaret L. (Smith) Hover.  She married Richard Max Fullerton on December 30, 1949, in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death in 1979.  Jean was also preceded in death by a son Tony Joe Fullerton who died at the age of 7; and two sisters: Joan Schultz and Lois Ann Petit.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Hirschfeld of Kimbolton, Ohio; son Richard “Rick” (Renay) Fullerton of Bellefontaine; 5 grandchildren: Shane Fullerton, Cody (Brooke) Fullerton, Bridget Fullerton, Amber (Adam) Gump, and Elizabeth (Matt) Popovic; 8 great-grandchildren: Crew, Porter, Reeves, Sloan, Cullen, Addison, Caiden, and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Jean furthered her education at Bowling Green State University and obtained her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Wittenberg University.  She retired as a teacher and guidance counselor after 35 years, having taught in Huntsville, Jackson Center, Indian Lake, and West Liberty-Salem school systems, and was a member of the Logan County Retired Teachers Association.  

Jean was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for many years and taught Sunday school classes.  She volunteered at the Imaging Center for more than 10 years and enjoyed walking and crocheting.

Pastor Ben Beres will officiate Jean’s funeral service on Friday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville Presbyterian Church (6490 Fruit St., Huntsville), where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
