Former Bellefontaine resident shot, killed in Colorado

DENVER — Kelsey Roberts-Gariety, 23, a Denver, Colo., resident, was shot and killed June 29 in Denver, according to various news outlets.

Roberts-Gariety was raised in Bellefontaine by her mother, the late Glenda Roberts, and other relatives. The 2019 Bellefontaine High School graduate is survived by several relatives locally and around Ohio.

Denver police were dispatched to a shot-fired call at an apartment near East Kentucky Avenue and South Dexter Street, where they found Roberts-Gariety dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Police arrested Ernest Cunningham in connection with Roberts-Gariety’s death.

Roberts-Gariety’s husband, Jack Gariety, helped police identify the suspect. Gariety had worked with Cunningham and told police he began receiving threats from the suspect after Cunningham was fired from their workplace.

Cunningham reportedly fled the crime scene, was tracked with video evidence taken by a witness and was apprehended the following day, according to reports.

Cunningham has been charged with first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court Aug. 2.
