Jon Patrick McCumber, age 48, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his residence Thursday evening, July 4, 2024.
He was born August 23, 1975, in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, to Mary “Kathy” (Love) McCumber of Mechanicsburg and Jack A. McCumber of Bellefontaine. Also surviving are three children: Brock, Alyece “Aly” and Braylen McCumber, all of Fort Loramie; his step mother, Lisa McCumber of Bellefontaine; grandmother, Betty Black of Bellefontaine; sister, Elizabeth & Jim Mason of Marion; one niece, Emma McCumber of Marion; uncles & aunts: Jerry & Lori Love of Mechanicsburg and Chuck & Edie Love of Mechanicsburg along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by several uncles, aunts and grandparents.
Jon was a 1994 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. He continued studies at the University of Toledo, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Childhood Education. During his teaching tenure, he also obtained a K-12 Education, Master of Arts degree from the University of Toledo.
Mr. McCumber had been recently employed in sales at Homen Inc. of Maria Stein. He previously worked for Sutter Brothers Ltd. In Coldwater for six years. His teaching and coaching tenure included teaching 6th grade math at Bellefontaine Middle School and serving as varsity offensive coordinator. While at Fort Loramie Local Schools, he taught 7th and 8th grade math from 2003 to 2009. He was an active member of the initial Fort Loramie Football program, dating back to 2005, and had been the first varsity coach of the newly formed small-town team. His earliest teaching assignment was at Anna Local Schools where he taught Jr. High math and also coached Jr. High football. Jon enjoyed spending time with his children; especially fishing with Braylen, out-of-state vacations with Aly and attending pro football games with Brock.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie with Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding. Interment will take place at the discretion of his family. Family and friends may call Tuesday, 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Football Program.
