Stemble’s Meat has been a part of the Logan County community now for 50 years, and this summer, the family-owned butcher dedicated to excellence and a customer-first approach is opening at a new sister store in downtown Bellefontaine.

The Butcher & Market is slated to open in mid-July at 214 S. Main St., with renovations currently underway to convert the space into an inviting full-service deli, meat market and retail store that will be unique to the area.

“The Butcher & Market, is bringing back the small town charm and quality of old-school meat markets,” said General Manager Dalanie Logan, who is moving into this new role after also serving Stemble’s Meat in marketing and communications.

“Our goal is to provide you with the finest local meats and more, offering a shopping experience that combines tradition with top-notch quality.”

T.J. and Brandie Rose purchased Stemble’s Meat in 2021. The couple and their three boys own a grain farm outside of Bellefontaine. When they’re not farming, you can find them both at Stemble’s Meat where T.J.’s dad, Jake Rose, works as the manager of Stemble’s Meat and is a local favorite.

Brandie will be in downtown Bellefontaine at The Butcher & Market as well.

Dalanie and her husband, Cody, have two children and also reside on a farm near Rushsylvania.

Both families have known each other for years and are excited for this new adventure and to work alongside each other.

“We want to use The Butcher & Market to also help educate people on where their food comes from and highlight these local producers who work so hard,” they said.

Last fall, the owners began discussing the idea of developing the new retail store. They soon met with Bryden Penhorwood, building owner, and toured the 214 S. Main St. space, which years ago was the former Sandy’s Outlaws bar.

They began to see the possibilities for the former bar, accompanied by the building owner’s full support and flexibility in completing major renovations.

“Bryden has been wonderful to work with,” Dalanie said. “He has let us customize the entire building to what we needed.”

Renovations began at the beginning of this year, and now the finishing touches are being put on the soon-to-be The Butcher & Market.

“We’re putting up drywall and looking at paint samples now, ” said the general manager, a 2014 Benjamin Logan High School graduate and an OSU agriculture business graduate. “It’s going to be a beautiful space that still pays homage to the original design of the building, with exposed brick walls.

“We want the store to be welcoming, like you’re walking into a family kitchen pantry with all of your favorite meats, cheeses and local favorites. We were even fortunate enough to have a good friend from church custom create built-ins and the checkout counter for the store.

“It’s going to be a fun and family-friendly dynamic, and we want our customers to feel at home and be a part of our family, too.”

The Butcher & Market will offer a full-service deli with meats and cheese, along with a large assortment of fresh and frozen meat products that you can also find at Stemble’s Meat, and lunch items like grab and go sandwiches and protein boxes. Other popular items during the summertime are the seasoned brats and burgers, which are perfect for grilling.

In addition, Ohio made and veteran owned businesses will be spotlighted with barbecue sauces, spices, agriculture products and apparel, Dalanie said.

“We’ll feature other local businesses as well, including serving RISE Bakehouse bagels, which pair well with a lot of our meats and cheeses. We also sell Wish’s Maple Syrup and Candy, DB Yummers, Mobley’s Honey, Blue Jacket Dairy Cheeses.”

Also across the street at The Syndicate, meat from Stemble’s is on the menu.

Stemble’s Meat will continue operating its retail space and producer-focused business as well at 18 E. State Route 273, Belle Center.

Operating hours for The Butcher & Market are planned for: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The business will be closed on Mondays.
