A local family has turned a tragic loss into a beautiful way to honor their loved one’s memory and to help local students pursue their educational goals.

Approximately 200 people turned out for the fourth annual Purse Bingo event Saturday, May 18, at Winner Harvest Barn, 7317 State Route 47, DeGraff.

The event was organized by Sarah Dague and family, whose daughter, Abagail Dague, passed away June 8, 2018, in a vehicle crash.

Sarah Dague presented Ella Beelman with a $5,000 scholarship at the event. Ella, who currently serves as a volunteer on the Huntsville Fire Department, plans to attend Rhodes State College to become a paramedic and to get her fire investigation credentials.

Additionally, the Dague family also provided five Indian Lake High School seniors each with $1,000 scholarships at the school’s recent Scholarship Night event. The seniors are Samantha Johnson, Kayleigh Zedlitz, Kayla Schwaderer, Morgan Dague and Caiden Nicol.

Also in attendance at the event was Brianna Richards of Carrollton, who was the recipient of Abagail Dauge’s kidney via organ donation.

Some $27,000 in cash, prizes, purses and guns were awarded to attendees and about $15,000 in profits were secured to help fund future scholarship and bingo event efforts.
