Host Indian Lake used the strength of Madison Brentlinger’s pitching and a seven-run fifth inning to cruise to an 8-0 win over Bellefontaine in a Division II district semifinal softball game Thursday.
Brentlinger fired a no-hitter, striking out six and walking two. Brentlinger now has a record of 22-2 on the season.
The Lakers improve to 23-2 and they advance to play New Richmond (22-3) in the district championship at 5 p.m. Friday at Miamisburg High School.
Bellefontaine ends the season with a record of 15-10.
Pitching and defense was the story for the first four innings as the game was scoreless going into the fifth frame.
However, Indian Lake exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take control.
The Lakers tacked on a run in the sixth.
It was a balanced hitting effort for the Lakers.
Mackenzie Dixon went 3-3 to spark the Indian Lake bats. Haylee Edwards was 2-3, Katie
Roby went 2-3 with an RBI, Porscha Davis went 2-3 with an RBI and Geona Spires added an RBI.
