Nathaniel Clem, 43, of Lakeview, was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, on an outstanding warrant and additional charges following a traffic stop initiated by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Police on patrol in the area of the 1100 block of north Main Street observed the defendant operating a motor vehicle vehicle with his window rolled down. Officers recognized Clem from previous incidents and were aware of an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

Police followed the suspect as he pulled into the parking lot at McDonald’s on north Main Street and activated their overhead lights.

Clem exited the vehicle and reportedly approached officers with his hands in his pockets. He was handcuffed at that time and was very tense as police secured him in the cruiser.

A consent search of Clem’s vehicle was granted and nothing was found.
On the way to the Logan County Jail, Clem reportedly was very fidgety and eventually admitted to having additional contraband on his person. Upon their arrival at the jail, two additional drug syringes were found concealed in the defendant’s pants.

He was lodged on the warrant, and charged additionally with possession of drug abuse instruments and tampering with evidence.
