Bill Earl Guthrie, 98, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his home. He was born in Logan County, Ohio on August 23, 1925, to the late Cyril and Fern (Judy) Guthrie.
Along with his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Kauffman Guthrie; second wife, Phyllis Lile Thomas Guthrie; daughters, Linda McClure, Pamela McClure, and Sandra Burnside.
Bill is survived by his children, David Ray (Becky) Guthrie of Killeen, Texas, Vivien Neer of Urbana, and Virginia (Jim) Gray of Piqua; son-in-law, Thomas Burnside of Bellefontaine; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and 3 great-great-great grandchildren.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served our country proudly for 27 years. He was a Shriner with the FreeMasons, and a Color Guard Commander with the American Legion. Bill was a lifetime member of the 101stAirborne Division, the 29th Division, the American Legion, and Amvets. He was one of the first 15 members to go to Congress to certify the Vietnam Veterans Association as a military organization. Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Pastor Gary Brown will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, at the funeral home. A burial will follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
