Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team could not keep pace with visiting Marysville on Tuesday in the Chieftains’ season opener.
The visiting Monarchs took a 17-point lead at halftime and continued to stretch out their lead in the second half en route to a 57-30 victory.
A pair of Jacob Salyer three-pointers helped the Chiefs take a 6-2 lead early on, but the Monarchs used a 13-2 run to lead 15-8 at the end of the opening quarter.
Marysville went on to lead 29-12 at halftime.
Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter as the Monarchs held a 40-23 advantage. Marysville outscored the Chiefs 17-7 in the final stanza.
Salyer led Bellefontaine with 11 points. Jair Mundy had eight points and CJ Wilson added five points.

Will Collins, is now an assistant coach for
the Monarchs.
Jamey Collins’ son CJ Collins had 12 points for Marysville. Marysville also won the junior varsity and freshman games.
The Chiefs are back in action Friday at Urbana.
