A rural DeGraff resident was offered heartfelt gratitude and honor this week for his 22 years of service to the U.S. Marine Corps during a special ceremony hosted by the Logan County Commissioners.
Joe Estep, a 1992 Indian Lake High School graduate, was presented with a flag that flew over the Logan County Courthouse last month during the ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 21. The flag program began earlier this year to honor a local citizen each month for their leadership and service.
“Mr. Estep served in the United States Marine Corps from 1992 to 2014 and attained the rank as Master Sergeant,” Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram said.
“His honors include the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Certification of Commendation, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and many other honors and awards of recognition.”
Several family members were present to help celebrate with Mr. Estep, a native of Lewistown.
Fellow Logan County Commissioners Mike Yoder and Mark Robinson hosted the ceremony alongside Antram, supported by Logan County Administrator David Henry, Administrative Clerk DeDe Doss and Human Resources Director Jenny Richardson.
Other elected officials in attendance included Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds, Clerk of Courts Barb McDonald and Recorder Pat Myers. Representatives from the Logan County Veterans Service Office included Shelley Kneece, Amy Ricketts and Tim Shaw.
