Indian Lake Board of Education members are thankful for the community support the district received on Election Day earlier this month.
During the board’s regular monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 20, many of the members expressed their gratitude that the district’s five-year renewal levy passed the first time it was on the ballot.
Also related to district finances, Treasurer Coleen Reprogle presented the annual five-year forecast and Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood said the district is currently in a strong financial position.
“We’re watching several things in Columbus in terms of tax reform and possible legislation that could impact our budget, but overall, we’re really happy with the position the district is in at this point in time.
“We also want to thank our public. We have a tremendously supportive community here at Indian Lake and they recently renewed our five-year levy. We definitely take that seriously and we will continue to be good stewards of the tax payers’ dollars.”
ILHS Wrestling Coaches Phil Mackesy and Ryan Dickson detailed the recent growth and success of their program, making the case for adding to the coaching staff to accommodate more wrestlers and the emergence of the ILHS Girls Wrestling Team.
Superintendent Underwood presented sophomore Reagan Rash with a Certificate of Achievement for advancing to the State Cross Country Meet for the second time this fall. Senior Madison Brentlinger also received a Certificate of Achievement for being named Honorable Mention All State Volleyball.
Finally, Dr. Underwood presented longtime board member Steve Spath with an award from the Ohio School Boards Association for his 25 years of service.
Members also accepted the bid through META cooperative purchasing to buy a 78-passenger conventional bus at $128,409 to be delivered and paid for in Fiscal Year 2024, pending manufacturer availability.
In other action, the board:
• accepted the retirement resignation of Betty Kimball, effective June 1; and the resignation of Teresa Coughlin, effective at the end of the 2023-24 contract;
• extended supplemental contracts to: Wayne Stevenson, Mathew Kawalec, middle school boys basketball; and Jennifer Kaffenbarger, junior varsity softball;
