Dawson E. Kelly, 16, of Lakeview, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a crash Sunday, Nov. 5.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a westbound 1994 Honda Civic on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 270 about 9:45 p.m. when he went off the right side of the road, turned sideways and struck a culvert.

The vehicle then overturned, struck a utility pole and came to a rest on its top in a field on the east side of the road.

Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene. The driver was wearing his seat belt and was cited for failure to control.

Passenger charged during traffic stop

Lamont A. Walton, 49, of Springfield, was charged with obstructing justice, possession of drug paraphernalia and littering during a traffic stop Saturday, Nov. 4.

Deputies on patrol about 5:35 p.m. in the area of U.S. Route 68 just north of West Liberty conducted a traffic stop with a speeding vehicle.

During contact with the driver, deputies observed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The passenger, Walton, and the driver each were asked to exit the vehicle for a probable cause search. Deputies said the defendant then threw a beer can into the ditch, which was open and liquid splashed onto the ground.

While speaking with Walton, deputies said he initially provided them with a false name.

Deputies later determined his correct identity and learned he had three active warrants out of Clark County, which were out of the pick up radius.

He was placed under arrest, and during a search of his person, deputies located a pipe, which Walton said had crack cocaine residue.

The defendant was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
