Catherine “Kate” V. Warnecke, 91, of Lakeview, OH passed away Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023, at Wyngate Senior Living Community, Lima, OH.

Catherine was born on October 12, 1932, in Ft. Jennings, OH, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Angelina Brinkman Hellman. She married Meletus “Mel” E. Warnecke at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ft. Jennings, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2017. She is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joseph Leahy, siblings, William and Rose Hellman, Dolores and Joseph Ruhe, Jennie and Vincent Karhoff, Emily and Hubert Elwer, infant twins, John and Joseph Hellman, and in-laws, Carol Hellman, Norma and James Schroeder, Marietta and Carl Webken, Alma and Aloysius Niese, Alvin “Dick” and Ruth Warnecke, and Leon Warnecke.

Kate is survived by six children, Theresa (Michael) O’Laughlin, Greensboro, NC, Mary (Don) Kuba, DeGraff, OH, Patricia (Mike Wollett) Swiger, Columbus, OH, Virginia Leahy, Madison, AL, Edward (Deborah) Warnecke, Lewistown, OH and Angela (William) Amato, Avon, OH, 12 grandchildren, Katie (John) McCabe, Adam (Jessica) Bergman, Ryan (Karen) O’Laughlin, Sarah (Jeremiah) Perkins, Keith (Sean) Leahy, Stephen (Makenzie) Leahy, Jacob Amato, Ben Amato, Nick Amato, Clark (Lucy) LeVan, Holly (Matt) Whitaker and Kelly (Kurt) Sellers, 13 great-grandchildren, AJ Bergman, Gunner Bergman, Luke LeVan, Carter LeVan, John Michael McCabe, Jacob McCabe, Clay Whitaker, Adalyn Whitaker, Bryson Whitaker, Logan Sellers, Palmer O’Laughlin, Grey O’Laughlin, and Alex Perkins, two siblings, George Hellman, Ft. Jennings, and Eileen (Louis) Schimmoeller, Ft. Jennings, and many nieces and nephews.

Kate was a 1951 graduate of Ft. Jennings High School. She was an active member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point, OH. She enjoyed volunteering at church, singing in the choir, being a CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of Altar Rosary Sodality, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and Red Hat Society. She enjoyed watching sports and movies. Kate always made sure that every outing was perfectly planned. She was Mel’s beautiful farm partner and wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Kate’s family wishes to thank the staff of Wyngate and Interim Hospice for their care and compassion.

Fr. Kent Kaufman will begin Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, November 6, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 464 Madison Ave, Russells Point. Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, and Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given in Kate’s memory to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, St. Charles Catholic Church in Lima, or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
