Russell Dale Hagar, 90, of Celina, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Celina Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Powell, Ohio, on January 31, 1933, the son of Herbert and Lela (Claypool) Hagar. On Aug 28, 1955, he married Rosemary Lu LeValley, who passed away on March 25, 2020.

Russell is survived by his two children Robyn (Mark) Armstrong and Tim Hagar both of Celina. He also leaves behind six loving grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, Wife, brothers Clarence (Agnes), Harold (Mary Jane), Donald (Ginny), Luther (Barbara) and Robert Hagar.

He graduated from Middleburg High School and attended the Wright State Lake Campus for two years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Aviation Metalsmith from 1954 until 1956. He became a Corporal in 1956 and had served during the Korean War.

Russell was employed by the City of Celina Utilities. He retired in 1997 as superintendent of the water treatment and water distribution after thirty-one and half years of service. He was also the caretaker for the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery for twenty-five years.

He was a member of the Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina. Alumni of Middleburg High School, member of the American Legion Post #210 and a fifty-year member of the Bowling Association at the Plaza Lanes in Celina.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina, with Rev. Matt Overman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mercer Memory Gardens Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors provided by the Celina American Legion Post #210 and the Celina V. F. W. Post #5713. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Appalachia Service Project at Grand Lake United Methodist Church 119 E. Fulton St. Celina, Ohio 45822. Condolences may be shared with the Hagar family on-line at LehmanDzendzelFH.com.
