Keith “Doug” Hufford, 65, of Lakeview, OH, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair outside at home with his dog, Sophie, by his side on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
Doug was born on October 13, 1957, in Piqua, OH. He is preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Persinger, and a sister, Edith Persinger.
He is survived by his foster parents, Oran and Billie Thomas of Piqua, his spouse and partner of 25 years, Sandra Hufford, one son, Corey (Brenda) Gearheardt of Vandalia, grandson, Corbin (Allison) Gearheardt of Vandalia, granddaughter, Katlyn Gearheardt of Palmetto, FL, great grandson, Barrett Vincent Gearheardt of Vandalia, brother, Randy (Cindy) Hufford of Sidney, Ted Hufford of Piqua, sister, Sam Reed of Florida, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. All loved and thought of.
Keith was a 1975 graduate of Piqua High School. His was a veteran of the United States Air Force, proudly serving for 10 years. He worked many jobs over the years but truly loved his 35 years at WPAFB. Keith had many health afflictions, but it never dampened his will to live. Keith was a generous and kind person. He was a pleaser. He loved kids, dogs, especially Sophie, and they loved him back. He never met a stranger, and loved life to the fullest. Some of these numbers may be off, but Doug was a 10, A KEEPER!
Jim Parlette will begin a celebration of Keith’s life at 2 p.m. Monday, October 9, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview with visiting from 1 to 2 p.m. Military honors will be performed by Amvets Post #39 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Keith’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors Project.
