Austin T. VanHoose, 21, of 5409 County Road 1, Bellefontaine, was charged with two felony counts of assault on a peace officer and with one count of disrupting public services related to an incident Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 6:05 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute at VanHoose’s residence.

The caller advised that VanHoose was attacking his mother and then had left the residence in a vehicle.

Deputies located the defendant in the 3000 block of C.R. 1 and a traffic stop was initiated in the area of 1295 County Road 29.

Deputies attempted to speak with VanHoose, but said he refused to answer any questions regarding what happened between he and his mother.

The defendant was then ordered out of the vehicle and while deputies were attempting to place him under arrest, he reportedly spit at one of the deputies on two separate times. VanHoose was taken to the ground by deputies and then was able to be restrained with handcuffs.

The deputy also sustained multiple scratches to his wrist and forearm during the altercation, and the defendant also broke the deputy’s watch. VanHoose sustained scuff marks to his face.

Deputies also responded to the C.R. 1 residence, where they spoke with the victim, who said VanHoose had pushed her several times, but she did not have any visible injuries.

He also reportedly took her cell phone during the altercation in attempt to prevent her from calling 911.

The defendant was lodged in the Logan County Jail. He also faces charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a peace officer, resisting arrest, criminal damaging and domestic violence.
