The Benjamin Logan Board of Education approved a revised 2023-24 school calendar at a special meeting Monday evening, July 31, and also approved several agreements with several area contractors, including an asphalt bid package and a bleacher repair project.

The revised calendar reflects “no school” on April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse, school officials noted.

The 2023-24 school year begins Sept. 5 for students in grades 1-12, and the final day of the school year is May 24.

An Asphalt Bid Package was awarded to Byrne & Jones Construction for the football complex area and Superior Seal Coating for the elementary school playground.

The school board affirmed its participation in the joint cooperative purchasing program (Sourcewell) and approved a proposal from Musco Sports Lighting, LLC for a light bulb replacement and repairs project paid for out of general fund.

A proposal from Farnham Equipment Company (Sourcewell) for bleacher repairs throughout the district was also approved out of general fund.

Additionally, members approved a contract with Renier Custom Construction Corp. for the band tower project also to be paid out of the general fund.

In other action, the board:

• approved $100 stipends for the listed individuals who will be attending the required ALICE training for new staff: Riley Hayhurst, Paul Jenne, Alix Brown, Sarah Skidmore, Heidi Fuller, Anthony Courtney, Linda Thompson, Cody LeMay, Annette Ramga-Alatorre, Kaleigh Saylor, Brenda Mitchell and Greg Saylor;

• approved the reassignment of the following staff beginning the 2023-24 school year: Barb Kensler, high school food service, an additional hour per day (total of 6 hours per day); Rebecca Peterson, elementary school food service, an additional hour per day (total of 5 hours per day);

• extended athletic supplemental contracts for the 2023-24 school year: Sage Caughenbaugh, junior varsity cheer coach football; Ryan Knight, volunteer high school boys golf; James Bramlage, volunteer high school girls golf.

The board also entered executive session for the purpose of: the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against an employee, official, licensee or student, unless the employee, official, licensee or student requests a public hearing.

The next regular meeting is 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21.
