Parents charged with leaving children in hot car

Shane Richardson, 30, and Keisha Richardson, 24, both of Waynesfield, were charged with child endangering after leaving two of their children in a locked car unattended at the parking lot of Mary Rutan Hospital shortly after 1 p.m., Friday, July 21.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to the hospital parking lot on Palmer Road on a report of a 10-year-old child and an infant alone inside a car that was turned off, with the windows cracked approximately one inch. Officers were told the children had been inside the car for about 15 minutes prior to their arrival.

Contact was made with the parents, Shane and Keisha, who reported they had hurried to the emergency department because their other child, a two-year-old, had been bitten in the face by a dog. The children’s father was in the waiting room on idly on his cell phone while the child’s mother was in the back with healthcare professionals, hospital staff reported. The couple were each issued a summons.

Driver charged in hit-skip crash

James Wolgamot, 47, of Bellefontaine, was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and failure to stop after an accident following a hit-ship crash reported around 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 23, in the area of west Sandusky Avenue and Walker Street.

Officers were met at the police station by the victims of the crash, who reported they were stopped on Sandusky Avenue and waiting to turn left when the defendant’s car struck them from behind and proceeded on without stopping.

Officers were provided a license plate number and description of the vehicle. Heavy damage was observed to the rear of the complainant’s vehicle. Officers were soon to locate a vehicle matching the description and license plate number of the suspect’s car and issued the charges.
