Serene spot memorializes Joshua Keith

Area youths enjoyed playing on the hillside just north of the show arena at the Logan County Fairgrounds last week, next to a tree planted in memory of Joshua Glenn Keith, a Logan County Fair board member who passed away at the age 22 in August of 2014 as a result of a boating accident. The 2010 Indian Lake High School graduate and 2014 Wilmington College graduate was a familiar face at the fair throughout his teenage years as well. The memorial tree was planted eight years ago by Daric McClintick and is looked after by Keith’s mother Mary Staley-Royer, who noted, “The tree is always thriving because his soul is part of the fair.” She typically ties a red handkerchief to the tree each year for fair week, as a nod to her son’s love of International Harvester tractors, but said this summer, some special person had already beat her to this task.
