Garold L. Baughman, 73, of 7358 Walnut St., Belle Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an injury crash Saturday evening, June 24, on State Route 117.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Dwight C. Stevenson, 36, of Rushsylvania, was transported by Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in the crash that occurred about 6:55 p.m.

Deputies said Stevenson was operating a southbound 2005 Honda CR-V on State Route 117 near Walnut Street in the North Fork area when he struck the rear of a southbound 2017 Ford Focus operated by Lee A. Watson, 30, of Lakeview.

Watson told deputies he had slowed for a third vehicle, a 2000 Honda Passport operated by Baughman, who made an improper turn and took out a stop sign at S.R. 117 and Walnut St., and then kept driving.

Deputies located the Honda Passport nearby at Baughman’s address. When they arrived, they observed a man sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, and noted that he showed signs of impairment and had a strong odor of alcohol on his person.

Deputies said Baughman’s vehicle had damage to the front bumper, which was consistent with striking the stop sign. Baughman told deputies he had been drinking and had arrived home about 20 minutes prior.

He reportedly refused to submit to field sobriety tests and he had trouble walking to the cruiser once he was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to submit to a breath test.

No other injuries were reported. Damage was heavy to the Stevenson and Watson vehicles, which were towed from the scene, and light to the Baughman vehicle.

Stevenson and Watson were wearing their seat belts, and seat belt usage is unknown for Baughman.

• Jason A. Mills, 49, of Piqua, was charged with OVI related to a reckless driving complaint received by Logan County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers Saturday evening.
About 9 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a southbound vehicle driving left of center and right of the fog line in the area of county roads 130 and 91. The caller provided a license plate number for the vehicle.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle in the area of State Route 47 near State Route 235 and then observed the vehicle go left of center multiple times before initiating a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver, Mills, deputies observed that he displayed signs of impairment. He told deputies he had consumed alcoholic drinks that evening. Mills submitted to field sobriety tests and then was transported to the jail, where he refused to participate in a breath test.
