Voters in the Indian Lake School District will consider a renewal levy on the ballot this fall.
During the board of education’s regular meeting Monday evening, June 19, members approved a resolution of necessity for the district’s one and only five-year emergency operating levy.
Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood explained that the district will ask for no new money in November.
“The board elected to go with a straight renewal, which will be at the same rate which was originally passed back in 2013, so no increase on that. If the voters pass that levy, it will run from 2025 to 2030.”
In other news, Community Health and Wellness Partners President/CEO Tara Bair gave the board an update on the district health clinic which opened in January.
The clinic has served nearly 300 patients, many taking advantage of on campus mental health services. Bair reported that when students or staff use the CHWP Clinic at school, they are only out of class an average of 32 minutes.
At the meeting, board members also recognized ILHS sprinter Elayna Richardson. In the winter, she placed 8th in the 200 meter dash during the State Indoor Track and Field Championships. This spring, she also advanced to the OHSAA Track and Field State Meet for her school-record breaking time in the 400-meter dash.
The board also approved a contract with Washington Township to continue the School Resource Officer services with SRO Logan Miller for a second year. The Memorandum of Understanding between the Indian Lake School District Board of Education and the Washington Township Board of Trustees includes an annual rate of $43,986 with grant funds, or $70,506 if Washington Township does not receive the SRO grant.
In other action, the board approved, accepted or extended:
• the following certified teacher contracts: one-year — Brian Claybaugh, high school intervention specialist; and Alex Jacobs, high school credit recovery & financial literacy;
• the following classified contracts: one-year — Yasmyn Inskeep, HS paraprofessional assistant; Whitney Miller 4-hour elementary food service;
• the supplemental contract resignation of Dave Shoffner, high school assistant football;
• supplemental contracts to: Sarah Kinsey, middle school cross country; Chris Minite, volunteer boys soccer; and Katy Taylor, MS Basketball Cheer;
• the following extended Service Days for the 2023-24: Alice Weygandt, Greg Tuttle, high school guidance, 10 days each; Betty Kimball, family/consumer science, five days; Mandy Tidwell, middle school guidance, 10 days; Josh Shelton, elementary media assistant, five days; Deb Metzger, high school media assistant, five days;
• the cross country overnight trip to Camp Moneto in Nashville, Ind., June 23-27;

• the estimated resource and appropriation modifications, approved the renewal of the Ohio School Plan Property, Violence, Auto, Liability, and Pollution Insurance Policy in the amount of $96,308; and approved the Cyber Insurance in the amount of $6,390.
