Steven Jay Roby, 80, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.

He was born on June 7, 1943, in Bellefontaine, Ohio to John and Ida “Lucille” (Black) Roby.

On June 10, 1967, Steve married Susan Dye Harris at Trinity Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. He was a graduate of DeGraff Riverside High School and Ohio University, where he was a member of the Bobcat Varsity Football Team.

Steve proudly served his country in the US Air Force as a member of the 394th SMS Squadron at Vandenberg AFB, California.

Steve initially was employed as an engineer at Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon, Ohio and Camden, New Jersey. He worked for 45 years as an engineer for Gilson Screen, Inc. in Malinta, Ohio, retiring in 2021.

Steve actively supported Napoleon High School Band Boosters, both while his children attended school and afterwards. He was instrumental in the building of the new football stadium and was inducted into the Napoleon High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. Steve served as the Napoleon Township representative on the Henry County Fair Board for 33 years. He especially enjoyed serving as a co-chairman for the NTPA Tractor Pulls each year. For over 40 years, Steve was an active member of the Henry County United Way, where he served on several committees and boards. In 2001 he received the Friends of the United Way Award.

Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan; children, Christi (Todd) Ranzau and Robert (Shannon) Roby; grandchildren, Brodie (Hannah Bailey) Ranzau, Sydney Ranzau, Drake Roby, and Kylee Roby; brother, Rick Roby; and extended family, Mike (Connie) Madden, Kenneth Madden, Rita Maier, and Nina Madden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Roby, Jr. and his sister, Judy DeLong.

Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon on Wednesday, June 14, from 2 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Napoleon, on Thursday, June 15, at 11 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to services. Interment with military honors will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, accorded by the Napoleon American Legion Post #300.
