Volunteers are sought to “get wet, get dirty and to get involved” in the annual Clean Sweep of the Great Miami River, with local activities set for Saturday, July 22.
Participants can join in for a day of canoeing and picking up litter out of the river.
Individuals should meet at the Indian Lake spillway parking area at 8:30 a.m. for sign-in and breakfast. Then leaders will provide instructions on paddler safety and break into groups to cover different sections of the river at 9 a.m.
Canoes, paddles, life jackets and trash bags will be provided.
Participants are advised to wear clothes that they don’t mind getting wet and dirty.
Closed-toe shoes are also required, with no exceptions.
The Clean Sweep is an annual volunteer event focused on removing trash and restoring the health of the Great Miami River. It spans all the way from Indian Lake to the Ohio River.
“This river clean-up is about much more than picking up trash. It’s a day for communities to demonstrate their desire for clean water and healthy rivers,” organizers said.
“It’s an opportunity to learn about our river, and it’s a time to come together with your families, your neighbors, your community and your friends to accomplish something vital and worthy on behalf of our Great Miami River.
“This cleanup is coordinated by many partners and attended by hundreds of wonderful volunteers.”
