Chiefs, Lakers, Raiders qualify athletes to regionals on opening day of district meet

Bellefontaine, Indian Lake and Benjamin Logan all qualified athletes to next week’s regional meet after the opening day of the Division II district track and field competition Thursday at Graham High School.

The remaining field events and the running finals will be conducted today, with field events beginning at 1 p.m. and running events starting at 2:30 p.m.

In the girls meet, Bellefontaine is currently second with 17.5 points behind Carroll (32).

Indian Lake is third (13) and Ben Logan is fourth.

The Lady Chiefs were led Thursday by freshman Kelsie Snapp, who won the shot put (36-7) to earn a berth in the regional meet.

The top four finishers in each event advance to regionals.

Also for BHS on the first day, Perri Neeld was sixth in the shot put (34-10.5), the 3,200 relay team of Kailyn Newman, Kaileigh Flora, Montanna Buck and Harper Penhorwood finished sixth (10:52) and Rylie Reames finished seventh in the high jump (4-10).

Bellefontaine’s girls also qualified to today’s running finals in the 100, 400 relay, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 200 and the 800.

In finals events for the Lady Lakers on Thursday, fifth-place finishes went to the 3,200 relay team of KaiLea Miller, Cambria Tuttle, Evie Wagner and Reagan Rash (PR of 10:49), Stephanie Altstaetter in the shot put (35-0.75) and Ryan Culp in the pole vault (PR of 12-0).

Ava Faler was sixth for the Lakers in the high jump (4-10) and Grace Pequignot was seventh in the shot put (34-9.25).

Indian Lake also qualified in numerous events for today’s district finals, including the 800 relay team of Elayna Richardson, Jalan Martin, Reece Martin and Addison Beck, with set a new school record with a time of 1:47.69.

Ben Logan’s girls team qualified to the regionals in two events Thursday. The 3,200 relay team of Lexi Archer, Georgia Bates, Mylee Boysel and Estella Wenger was third (10:26.13) and Isabel Henderson was fourth in the high jump (5-0).

The Raiders qualified for today’s district running finals in the 100 hurdles, 100 dash, 800 relay, 400 relay, 300 hurdles, 800, 200 and 1,600 relay.

In the boys meet after one day, Miami East is in first with 26 points, Shawnee and Carroll are tied for second with 20 points, Northeastern is fourth with 10 points, Bellefontaine is fifth with 16 points and Ben Logan is tied for sixth with 13 points.

The Chiefs qualified to athletes to the regionals as Haiden Manns was third in the discus (PR of 153-0) and Carter Kuhn was fourth in the pole vault (PR of 12-0).

Also for the Chiefs, the 3,200 relay of Zavier May, Max Varner, Carter Snapp and Tony Stewart finished sixth (8:52) and Sullivan Ashcraft was seventh in the discus (129-5).

Bellefontaine qualified to today’s district finals in the 1,600, 400 relay, 400, 300 hurdles, 800 relay and 1,600 relay.

Ben Logan’s boys team qualified two athletes to the regional meet Thursday. Trevor Berry was fourth in the long jump (20-3.25) and Carter Daniels was third in the pole vault (12-0).

Also for the Raiders, the 3,200 relay team of Tyler Shoopman, Kendahl Stanley, Eli Rhoades and Eric Hughes finished seventh (8:59).

Ben Logan qualified for today’s district running finals in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 100, 200, 1,600, 800, 800 relay, 400 relay and 1,600 relay.

For Indian Lake’s boys Thursday, Caiden Gauntt placed eighth in the long jump (18-11).
