West Liberty-Salem’s baseball team had the tying run on third base with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but a double play ended the game as the Tigers fell to host Brookville 1-0 in a Division III sectional semifinal Wednesday.
The Tigers, who have one regular-season game remaining, are now 12-9 on the season.
Jake Evans suffered a tough luck loss on the mound for the Tigers. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and gave up just three on the day. He struck out five and walked four.
Brookville scored the lone run in the fifth inning.
The Tigers finished with four hits. Eli Allen, Brodey Deam, Evans and Isaac Sertell each had a single.
WL-S will wrap up its season today at Northeastern.

Pirates lose to Newton
Errors and a lack of timely hitting resulted in the end of Riverside’s tournament run Wednesday.
The visiting Pirates committed five errors and lost 5-0 to Newton despite outhitting the Indians 4-3 in a Division IV sectional semifinal.
Newton scored three times in the third inning for a 3-0 lead and the Indians added two more runs in the sixth.
Warren Shockey suffered the loss on the mound for the Pirates despite not allowing an earned run. He struck out six and gave up three hits.
Landon Purtee was 2-3 to lead Riverside at the plate.
