Senior Lane Reeves tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Bellefontaine to a 2-0 win over visiting Oakwood in a Division II sectional baseball opener Tuesday at Blue Jacket Park.
The ninth-seeded Chiefs (14-9) will host 12th-seeded Benjamin Logan in a sectional semifinal at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Bellefontaine scored both of its runs in the first inning in what turned into a pitcher’s duel between Reeves and Oakwood’s Riley Cahill.
The two early runs were all the offense Reeves needed as he kept the Oakwood bats silent. Reeves struck out five and did not walk a batter.
The Chiefs finished with three hits.
Cahill, who has signed with Dayton, struck out 14 on the day, but he also walked three.
Riley Neer, Kaden Reames and Keyon Collier each had a hit for Bellefontaine.
