Ronald Woodland, 33, of Westerville, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, weaving and for committing marked lanes violations following a 1:45 a.m. traffic stop executed Sunday, May 14, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department in the area of south Main Street and Washington Avenue.
Officers on patrol observed the vehicle Woodland was driving commit a wide turn while traveling onto southbound Main Street from Auburn Avenue. The suspect’s speed was also clocked at 43 mph in a 25 mph zone and he was found to be weaving in and out of his lane of travel.
Officers initiated the stop and observed signs of alcohol impairment, including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol coming from Woodland.
Field sobriety tests were unsuccessful, and Woodland was issued a summons and released to a sober driver.
Suspect lodged on drugs warrant
Jesse Houchins, 41, of Bellefontaine, lodged in the Logan County Jail around 6:30 a.m., Friday, May 12, on active drug warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop initiated by officers in the area of Lawrence Street near Garfield Avenue.
Officers were finishing up an unrelated call for service at apartments in the 200 block of Pratt Street when they observed the suspect, with whom they are familiar, leave a separate apartment building and drive away.
Officers checked the suspect’s driving privileges and found an active arrest warrant out of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for charges of possession of cocaine, aggravated possession of drugs and illegal use of drug paraphernalia.
Police caught up with the suspect and initiated the stop. A search of the car Houchins was driving also revealed an additional pipe that he admitted to using to smoke crack cocaine.
Houchins was charged additionally with possession of drug paraphernalia and lodged in jail. a
