Indian Lake’s softball team opened Division III sectional tournament play with a commanding 17-0 five-inning victory over visiting Preble Shawnee on Wednesday.
The top-seeded Lakers are now 21-2 on the season and they advance to play ninth-seeded Tri-Village on Monday in a district semifinal at a site to be determined.
Indian Lake did not waste any time taking control Wednesday.
The Lakers scored a pair of runs in the first inning and put four runs on the scoreboard in the second frame for a 6-0 lead.
Indian Lake continued its surge in the third inning with six more runs to increase the lead to 12-0.
The Lakers plated five more runs in the fourth inning.
Indian Lake finished with 17 hits.
Madison Brentlinger went 4-4 with a double, triple and four RBI to fuel the Lakers’ hitting attack.
Haylee Edwards went 2-4, Mackenzie Dixon was 2-4 with two triples and three RBI, Halle Roby went 3-4 with two triples and four RBI, Abigail Elliott went 2-3, Hannah Marlow went 2-3, Porscha Davis had a triple and Reece Martin had a double to aid the win for the Lakers.
Brentlinger also had a strong outing in the pitching circle for the Lakers. She allowed just two hits struck out six and did not walk a batter in getting the win.

Tigers exit tourney after loss to Arcanum
West Liberty-Salem’s softball team could not get its offense going in a 10-0 loss to host Arcanum in a Division III sectional tournament game Wednesday.
The Tigers end their season with a record of 5-14.
Arcanum is now 20-5 and advances to play Brookville in the district semifinal round Monday.
