Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 11:25 p.m. Sunday, May 7, on a report of a rollover crash in Belle Center.
Jennifer M. Titus, 36, of 632 Hamilton St., Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to the crash.
Deputies report she was operating an eastbound 2020 Toyota Rav4 on east Main Street in the village when her vehicle struck the front of an unoccupied 2016 Honda CR-V parked at 208 E. Main St., owned by Victor R. Deere of Belle Center.
The impact caused the Titus vehicle to overturn onto its top. Damage was heavy to both vehicles, deputies said.
Passenger Samantha Mathison, 40, of Bellefontaine, was treated at the scene by BMRT EMS personnel. No other injuries were reported.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies spoke with Titus and observed that she showed signs of impairment. However, she told deputies that she had not been driving the vehicle and that Mathison was driving the vehicle.
Deputies spoke with Mathison and she stated that Titus had been driving the vehicle. A witness to the crash also stated that Titus had gotten out of the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
While speaking with Titus again, deputies observed red marks on her left shoulder that were consistent with wearing a driver’s side seat belt. However, she continued to maintain that she had not been driving the vehicle. She refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
At the Logan County Jail, Titus reportedly refused to take a urine test. She also was cited for failure to control. Deputies note she had a former OVI conviction in 2010.
• Robert S. Herring, 29, of 315 Washington Ave., Bellefontaine, was charged with OVI related to a non-injury crash Friday, May 5.
Deputies were initiated called to a residence at 6950 Township Road 43 in reference to a domestic dispute, which later was determined to be only a verbal altercation.
When they arrived, deputies learned that Herring had been operating a 2018 Dodge Durango about 10:40 p.m., backing out of the driveway at 6950 Township Road 43. His vehicle crossed the road and struck a concrete culvert. Damage was light to the sport utility vehicle.
Deputies observed the Herring had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. He agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. At the jail, he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.110 blood alcohol content.
