Melvin Leslie Rockhold, Jr., 76, of Bellefontaine, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was born on March 14, 1947, in Bellefontaine, to his parents Melvin Rockhold, Sr. and Mary Lois (Bolden) Rockhold.

Melvin attended Bellefontaine High School and graduated in 1967.  He not only excelled in football and basketball, but also lettered in track. He was employed at Thomas & Marker until 1978.  He then went to work at United Telephone Company, aka Sprint, Embarq, and CenturyLink, from 1978 until he retired in 2010 to enjoy time with his family.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents Melvin Rockhold, Sr. and Mary Rockhold, a brother Marvin “Archie” Rockhold, and a grandson Jawuan Reynolds.

Melvin is survived by his children: Deric (Lanelle) Rockhold of London, Anitra Rockhold and Amber Burnette of Columbus, and Shayla (Marcus) Banks of Bowling Green; 5 grandchildren: Darion (Taylor) Rockhold, Deion (Hailey) Rockhold, Daeja (Blake) Floyd, Markell Banks, and Kacen Rockhold; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister Marsha (Eddie) Scipio of Bellefontaine; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Dr. Settle W. Townsend will officiate Melvin’s funeral service on Saturday, May 6, at noon at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service at noon. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
