Lakers sweep softball doubleheader at Lima Shawnee

Indian Lake’s varsity softball teams plated 27 runs over two games Saturday en route to a doubleheader sweep at Lima Shawnee in non-conference action.

The Lakers won the first game 15-0 in five innings, and prevailed 12-3 in the second game.

The Lakers collected 19 hits as a team in the opener, and plated seven runs in the third inning to put the first the game away.

Madison Brentlinger pitched the first game, earning the win. She also tallied three hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Mackenzie Dixon also recorded three hits for

Indian Lake in the opener.

In the second game, Reece Martin collected three hits for the Lakers. Annie Rapp tallied two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Camryn Weiner pitched and earned the win, striking out three. She also recorded a pair of hits at the plate and drove in two.

The Lakers are in action again today, hosting Northwestern in a Central Buckeye Conference matchup.

Chiefs split doubleheader at Wapakoneta

Bellefontaine’s softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Wapakoneta, losing the first game 5-3 before prevailing 12-6 in the second contest to forge a split.

The Chiefs outhit Wapakoneta in the first game and took an early lead, but could not push across enough runs in the late innings to make it stand up.

Bellefontaine went up 2-1 after two innings, but Wapakoneta tied the game in the third. Bellefontaine reclaimed the lead briefly with a single run in the top of fourth, but Wapakoneta plated two in the bottom of the fourth and another in the sixth to put the game away.

Kassi Prine and Alexza Clifton each collected a pair of hits in the opener. Emma Crabtree and Airiana Young each drove in runs.

The Chiefs had no such trouble taking advantage of their opportunities in the second game. They never trailed, plating five in the second and four more in the fifth to complement single runs in the first, sixth and seventh innings.

Averie Vigansky tallied three hits. Clifton also recorded three hits, including a double. Rianna Fullerton went 2-3.

Prine pitched and earned the win, striking out five. The Chief play at home today against Jonathan Alder.

Cardinals sweep Pirates

Riverside’s softball team lost a pair of games against Triad on Saturday.
The Cardinals won the first game 8-7 and took game two 5-2.

Triad is now 2-4 on the season and the Pirates fall to 5-3.

In the opener, the Pirates held 5-3 after four innings. Riverside added two runs in the top of the fifth to lead 7-3.

However, the Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to pull out the win.

Riverside committed seven errors and Triad was able to take advantage.

Offensively for the Pirates, Jade Copas went 3-4 with three RBI, Riley Dillon hit a home run and Aubree Huston went 2-4.

In game two, Triad jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings.

The Pirates scored a run in the top of the third to make it 3-2.

Triad plated a pair of runs in the fourth to add some insurance.

Copas went 3-3 with a double and three stolen bases to lead Riverside’s offense.

The Pirates host Jackson Center today.
