Lady Tigers win OHC preview meet

West Liberty-Salem’s girls track and field team showed it is the squad to beat tin the Ohio Heritage Conference this spring after winning the 12-team OHC preview meet Monday at Triad High School.

The Lady Tigers recorded 138.5 points to finish ahead of second-place Fairbanks, which tallied 133 points. Mechanicsburg was third (84) and the host Cardinals were fourth with 76.5.

The Tigers were led by three first place relay teams including the 4×800 team of Malia Miller, Ashley Yoder, Teagan Boyd and Breece Gullett (10:20.66), the 4×200 team of Sophia Hardwick, Gwen McCullough, Claire Longshore, and Mallory Bostick (1:54.64) and the 4×100 team of Tori Douthwaite, Elise Longshore, Chloe Griffith and Gwen McCullough (55:04).

Sophia Hardwick also won the discus (93-09).

Placing second for WL-S were Kenzie Bahan in the shot put (30-11), Lena Kauffman in the pole vault (8-0), Breece Gullett in the 800 (2:30.74) and the 4×400 relay team of Claire Longshore, Teagan Boyd, Breece Gullett and Mallory Bostick (4:25.63).

Third-place finishers included Sophia Hardwick in the 100 hurdles (17.58) and 300 hurdles (49.71) and Taylor Kennedy in the 3,200 meter run (13:12.40).

Finishing fourth for the Lady Tigers were Claire Longshore in the 100 hurdles (18.49) and 300 hurdles (51.95), Ashley Yoder in the 1,600 (5:48.4) and Mallory Bostick in the 400 (1:04.45).

Fifth-place finishers for WL-S were Isabella Hardwick in the discus (82-01), Tina Douthwaite in the pole vault (7-0), Lily Smith in the 3,200 (14:01.06) and Chloe Griffith in the 100 (14.19).

Chipping in sixth-place finishes were Anna Knox in the long jump (13-06.5), Aubree Timmons in the shot put (26-07.75) and Malia Miller in the 1,600 (5:56.30).

Rounding out the Tiger scorers in seventh place were Anna Knox in the high jump (4-06) and Gwen McCullough in eight place in the 800 (2:44.16).


WL-S boys finish fourth

West Liberty-Salem’s boys track and field team finished fourth in the OHC preview meet Monday.

Greeneview won with 123 points, Mechanicsburg was second with 92.33, Cedarville took third with 90 and the Tigers had 77.5.

WL-S had one first-place finisher in Jackson Steider, who won the 110 hurdles (16.78).

Finishing in second for the Tigers was Slayde Merriman in the pole vault (10-6), while third-place efforts went to Taryn Bradley in the 110 hurdles (19.78) and 300 hurdles (48.02) and the 3,200 relay team of Caleb Larson, Dylan King, Brevin Louden and Garrett Wallen (9:15.38).

Contributing fourth-place efforts were Joey LaRoche in the high jump (5-4), Steider in the long jump (17-6.5), Mark Bair in the discus (114-3) and the 1,600 relay team of Troy Bradley, Jake Lauck, Clay McAuley and Lincoln Henderson (3:53.56).

Taking fifth for WL-S were King in the 1,600 (4:58.95), Hunter Knotts in the high jump (5-2) and Craig Stanford in the pole vault (9-0).

Finishing in sixth were Caleb Larson in the 1,600 (4:59.95), Troy Bradley in the 400 (55.74) and Bair in the shot put (37-11).

Adding an eighth-place effort was the 800 relay team of Wyatt Longaberger, Daniel Neer, Silas Kauffman and Alex Boyer (1:54.45).


Chiefs sweep quad meet

Bellefontaine’s boys and girls track and field teams both finished first in a quad meet with Urbana, Northwestern and Kenton Ridge on Monday.

The Chieftain boys piled up 111 points to easily outdistance second-place Urbana (59). Northwestern was third (53) and Kenton Ridge was fourth (26).

Bellefontaine had a pair of winning relay teams. Those included the 1,600 relay of Vansh Patel, Max Varner, Harper Scott and Jame Holt (3:42.27) and the 800 relay of Jack Hutchins, Patel, Scott and Varner (1:36.65).

Getting individual wins for the Chiefs were Holt in the 110 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (43.6), Tony Stewart in the 1,600 (4:55.12) and 3,200 (11:07.92) and Sullivan Ashcraft in the shot put (49-4.5).

Taking second for the BHS boys were the 3,200 relay of Carter Snapp, Marco Martinez, Zavier May and Cody Hudson (9:41.2), the 400 relay of Carter Kuhn, Ethan Orahood, Scott and Hutchins (46.16), Orahood in the 110 hurdles (19.87), Scott in the 100 (11.58), Hayden Maus in the 1,600 (5:08.17), May in the 800 (2:22.35), Seth Taylor in the 3,200 (11:13.70), Haiden Manns in the shot put (43-3) and discus (130-7), Wes Dunn in the long jump (16-9) and Kuhn in the pole vault (9-6).

Finishing in third for the Chieftain boys were Taylor in the 1,600 (5:10.73), Varner in the 400 (56.09), Marcel Collins in the 800 (2:23.07), Hutchins in the 200 (24.90), Maus in the 3,200 (11:18.03), Jair Mundy in the high jump (5-4) and Orahood in the long jump (16-5.5).

Adding fourth-place efforts were Nasir Valmore in the 110 hurdles (20.73), Hutchins in the 100 (11.97), Snapp in the 400 (58.91), Martinez in the 800 (2:25.70), Wes Dunn in the 300 hurdles (59.76) and high jump (4-10) and Kuhn in the 200 (25.33).

The Lady Chiefs won their meet with 92.5 points. Kenton Ridge was second with 58.5 points, Northwestern was third (55.5) and Urbana was fourth (47.5).

Bellefontaine had two winning relays: the 3,200 of Kailyn Newman, Miabelle Zayas-Colon, Kayleigh Flora and Montanna Buck (11:40.8) and the 400 relay of Kylie Adams, Reniyah Brown, Ava Reeves and Callie Shumaker (51.12).

Individual wins went to Adams in the 100 hurdles (16.16), 300 hurdles (46.77) and long jump (16-10.5), Reeves in the 200 (26.54), Lexi Robinson in the discus (110-2) and Shumaker in the high jump (4-10).

Taking second for the Lady Chiefs were the 1,600 relay of Ella Reier, Flora, Lexi Yoder and Buck (4:51.37), Shumaker in the 100 hurdles (17.33) and 300 hurdles (49.86), Reier in the 1,600 (7:06.98), Kelsie Snapp in the shot put (34-2) and discus (106-2), Flora in the pole vault (7-0) and Reeves in the long jump (16-8).

Finishing in third for BHS was Newman in the 800 (2:53.45), while a fourth-place effort went to Buck in the 800 (3:01.7).


Calvary competes in quad at Franklin-Monroe

Calvary Christian’s track and field squad traveled to Franklin-Monroe for a quad meet Tuesday.

The Calvary girls had two winning efforts. Brooklyn Horner was first in the 1,600 (6:58.86) and Ruby Slemmons won the 3,200 (14:46.06).

Taking second for the Lady Spartans were Abigail Reinhard in the 100 hurdles (18.28) and Horner in the 3,200 (16:19.88).

Adding third-place finishes were Anastacia Rogan in the 200 (29.22) and long jump (13-10), Reinhard in the 300 hurdles (54.10) and the 1,600 relay team of Reinhard, Rogan, Horner and Slemmons (5:18.75).

Leading the Calvary boys with wins were John Gaertner in the 800 (2:19.63) and the 1,600 relay team of Gaertner, Lincoln Roell, Ephraim Daniels and Caleb King (3:58.07).

Taking second were King in the 100 (12.07) and Ephraim Daniels in the 800 (2:22.33), while finishing third were Clay Howard in the 100 (12.13) and 400 (59.51), the 800 relay team of Howard, King, Rogan and Daniels (1:43.95) and Daniels in the high jump (5-4).

Adding fourth-place efforts were Roell in the 1,600 (5:32.08), Ian Schmidt in the 3,200 (13:37.41), King in the high jump (5-4) and Gaertner in the long jump (17-5.5).
